You will need: an electric motor, deep cycle batteries, a controller, a battery charger, an adaptor kit, and a number of other small parts.

But first, you are going to need a vehicle that you can accomplish your electric car conversion with. Any vehicle can be used for this project, but some work better than others.

Heading the list are small cars and trucks, as they are light and strong. Your first consideration should be to find the lightest vehicle that will still do the job of hauling you and whatever cargo you carry around.

Next, you will want a large DC motor that will produce power for your electric car. The larger the motor, the more power your electric car will have.

Turn it off – If you are using something and are done using it, make sure that you turn it off. Although this seems rather simplistic, it is something that many of us forget to do. Instead of letting something on for half hour until you return, simply turn it off and you will save money, month after month.

Open It up – If it is the wintertime and you are trying to heat your home, make sure that you open the blinds and allow the sunlight to come in. This will have a natural heating effect and will cut your energy bill drastically. Make sure that you do this regularly if you want to see a real savings on a monthly basis.

Close it - If you have the blinds open to allow the sunlight in, make sure that you close the blinds whenever the sunlight is no longer coming through them. The windows are some of the areas in which the energy escapes from the home most readily. By closing the blinds, you are insulating the windows and keeping the paid energy on the inside of the house.

Does Not Compute – The computer is one of the main culprits that is burning up energy in our homes. Some of us even have multiple computers, many of which are running at any given time. Do not allow your computer to run overnight unless you’re running a virus scan. If you step away from your computer for a few minutes, hit the power switch on the monitor. The savings that you will see on your power bill will be considerable.

Turn It Down – Did you realize that by changing your thermostat one degree, you will be saving up to 5% on your home heating and cooling bill? If you want to have additional savings, try changing it a couple of degrees. You will not really notice the difference as far as your comfort is concerned once you get used to it but you will notice a difference in the amount of money you’re spending every month.

Unplug It – Whenever you are not using something that does not necessarily mean that it is not using energy. Make sure that you unplug appliances that are unnecessary whenever you’re not using them. This will save you money every month on your power bill.

The light energy emitted by the sun is made up of ‘photons’. This energy is absorbed by the individual solar cells that are semi-conductors, which themselves are generally made up of three separate layers.

The top layer, the one that is the main component of a solar cell, is made of silicon. Within the panel, there is usually a layer of phosphorus which generates a negative charge, and a layer of boron which provides a positive charge.

When the silicon layer of the solar panel absorbs the ‘photons’ from the sunlight, it allows electrons from cells to be knocked out of their normal atomic orbit. When this happens, these electrons are released into the electrical field created by the solar cells themselves which then draw these free electrons into a directional electrical current. The whole effect that takes place within the solar cell is known as the photovoltaic effect.

With advancing semiconductor technology making solar panels ever more efficient, the ability of the solar panels that we use to absorb and utilize an ever-increasing percentage of the sun’s energy will mean that solar panels of the future will be considerably more efficient than they are today.

These forms of energy have been used mainly because they are affordable and accessible via available technology. They can also be easily transported wherever they are needed. With natural resources there have to be certain elements in place in order to take advantage of them.

The concept of renewable energy embraces the ability to use the resources we naturally have, but that we will never run out of. This way we can continue to have all the advantages we want without destroying the Earth.

We also will not be preventing future generations from having the chance to grow and evolve beyond what we were able to see take place in our own lifetime. This process involves taking these types of natural resources and turning them into a product we can use for power.
