With the rising energy costs and effects of global warming so prevalent today, many people are wondering if there is truth to the concept of renewable energy technology. There also appears to be confusion between alternative energy technology and renewable energy technology. Alternative energy encompasses all renewable energy sources, but includes things like nuclear power and energy from municipal waste. These are carbonaceous examples. Renewable energy technology focuses on energy that is replaced as it is being used, such as solar energy and wind energy.

With that clear, are there truly benefits on a home or small business level to renewable solar technology? Absolutely. Truthfully, by utilizing renewable energy technology on a home level you can save yourself thousands of dollars each year. Renewable energy technology has gained popularity in recent years and it has become increasingly easy to meet your home’s energy needs with just a little handyman work. With the information available about renewable energy technology, it is possible to build renewable energy products, such as a windmill or solar panel, on your own.

Do-it-yourselfers are saving huge amounts of pocket change by building and installing these systems themselves. If you have the money to invest in a commercial professionally installed system, in general these are more efficient, however, savings can still be realized, and at a much faster rate, by researching and building your own renewable energy systems.

Renewable energy technology is advancing with each day. Solar electrical systems have advanced from giant roof panels to thin layers of film that are twice as conductive and work with less sunlight. There are now solar powered charges for cell phones, batteries and other small household items. Windmills have been made more aerodynamic for greater action and electricity generation. Renewable energy technology can even be seen along today’s highways as small solar/wind operation stations powering signs and lights.

The truth is renewable energy technology is working and you can put it to work for you in your home or business. With growing popularity and more consumer use, renewable energy technology could minimize our effects of global warming, help alleviate financial stress and create a world less depend on fossil fuels.

In order to save money on our electric bill, most of us are willing to do almost anything. It seems that in recent years the numbers that we are spending on a monthly basis have really gotten out of hand. One way that you may be able to cut down on this expenditure is by using natural sources in order to power your home in one way or another. Here are some of the options that are available, some of which you may be able to do in your area and others that you may not.

Click here to view whole video

Most of us would probably consider using solar energy in order to power our homes. This is usually done through arrays of photovolactic cells that collect the light from the sun and convert it into usable energy. Although this seems good in theory, very few of us would actually be able to save money by using this particular method. The reason why that is the case is because these photovolactic cells are quite expensive and to use it effectively, we would have to have multiple arrays at our home. The thousands of dollars that it would cost to set up the system would take many years to add up on our electric bill savings.

That doesn’t mean, however, that we cannot use solar energy in order to cut down on our electric bill. One way that we may be able to do so is by using the Sun’s natural heat in order to heat our home. Home heating costs have been going out of control recently and for that reason, you might want to consider opening blinds on the south side of your home in order to allow the sunlight in during the day. This additional heat can really save you but you also want to make sure that your closing these blinds every night in order to insulate the inside of your home and keep the heat from escaping through the windows.

A significant amount of money is spent every month for heating water in our home. We can also use the sun to do this and it is a lot less expensive than the photovolactic arrays that turn the sun’s light into usable energy. Typically, this is done by running the water underneath a solar panel which collects the light from the sun and super heats the water. The water is then used in a number of different ways. Not only can it replace our hot water heater, it can also be channeled through the walls of the home in order to provide radiant heat for us in the wintertime.

These are just some of the ways that we can use natural energy in order to cut down on our electric bill. As energy prices continue to rise, more and more of us are going to find a need of using this type of natural energy. Start converting things in your home today, you will begin saving money almost immediately.

There are many manuals on How to Produce Solar Energy at Home and Save Money on Your Electric Bills on the market.

What is solar energy?

The simple answer is – solar power is energy that comes from the sun. Whether we use it or not, the sun’s energy hits the Earth every day. While only a tiny percentage of the energy that the Sun emits every day comes to this planet, it is still believed that the sunlight we do receive is sufficient to generate enough electric power for every person on the planet several thousand times over.

When you think about it, it is logical that the power of the sun should be usable. After all, the sun provides both heat and light to us every day, and what are heat and light if not energy?

In the past, however, while people clearly understood the concept of the Sun generating power, there was little they could do about it, because the technology did not exist to collect that power and channel it in such a way that it became useful and usable.

The story is very different nowadays, hence our ability to harness solar power and turn it into usable electricity.

What are the advantages of solar power?

• Unlike the fossil fuels that we currently used to generate electricity, the power of the sun is virtually inexhaustible.

• Solar power is free, as no-one has managed to come up with a workable strategy for charging people for sunlight (yet!).

• Solar power is clean and pollutant free. Unlike oil powered electricity production plants, solar power does not belch noxious fumes into the air, nor is it anywhere near as intrinsically dangerous as nuclear powered electricity generation.

• In remote areas where providing mains electricity can be problematical, solar power can provide the ideal solution.

From even such a brief summary of the benefits of solar power, it should be clear that there are no significant downsides to generating electricity using the power of the sun.

The primary problem with using solar power to generate electricity has always been that the technology for collecting energy from the sun was just not efficient.

It was not all that long ago that you needed a solar panel that covered the whole of the roof of your house in order to power an electric radio! Although we have moved on considerably since those times, there is still a great deal of work to do before our ability to collect solar power matches our ambitions.

Having said all that, it is perfectly feasible for you to install a solar power system of sufficient size and strength to provide a significant proportion or perhaps all of the domestic electricity that you use.

How do we collect solar power?

Solar energy is collected using solar panels, which are nothing more than boards on which has been mounted a number of individual crystalline silicone solar cells. These cells are also known as photoelectric or photovoltaic (PV) cells. By combining a number of these individual cells together in an ‘array’ of cells on the board, you create a solar or PV (photo voltaic) panel.

Click here to view whole video

The light energy emitted by the sun is made up of ‘photons’. This energy is absorbed by the individual solar cells that are semi-conductors, which themselves are generally made up of three separate layers.

The top layer, the one that is the main component of a solar cell, is made of silicon. Within the panel, there is usually a layer of phosphorus which generates a negative charge, and a layer of boron which provides a positive charge.

When the silicon layer of the solar panel absorbs the ‘photons’ from the sunlight, it allows electrons from cells to be knocked out of their normal atomic orbit. When this happens, these electrons are released into the electrical field created by the solar cells themselves which then draw these free electrons into a directional electrical current. The whole effect that takes place within the solar cell is known as the photovoltaic effect.

With advancing semiconductor technology making solar panels ever more efficient, the ability of the solar panels that we use to absorb and utilize an ever-increasing percentage of the sun’s energy will mean that solar panels of the future will be considerably more efficient than they are today.

Solar power is likely to be the most valuable of the renewable energy sources available. There are many guides on How to Produce Solar Energy at Home and Save Money on Your Electric Bills on the market. The most frequently used is GreenDIYenergy

Fossil fuels are used to make energy for our consumption, but once they are gone we will never be able to replenish them. Coal, oil, and natural gas all fall into this category. They are currently used all over the place in high amounts so we may not realize that they are in limited supply.

These forms of energy have been used mainly because they are affordable and accessible via available technology. They can also be easily transported wherever they are needed. With natural resources there have to be certain elements in place in order to take advantage of them.

The concept of renewable energy embraces the ability to use the resources we naturally have, but that we will never run out of. This way we can continue to have all the advantages we want without destroying the Earth.

We also will not be preventing future generations from having the chance to grow and evolve beyond what we were able to see take place in our own lifetime. This process involves taking these types of natural resources and turning them into a product we can use for power.

That means a great deal of information and technology has to be collected and evaluated. Many of these methods though continue to see advances in the designs and processing which will result in them being even more valuable in the future than they are right now.

Most will agree that renewable energy sources are better for the environment. The burning of fossil fuels including gasoline and coal isn’t good for the environment. These alternative resources will allow us to save resources and at the same time to live in a cleaner environment than we have now.

Many believe it isn’t practical or safe to depend only upon these types of resources though. That is because the sun doesn’t always shine so the solar energy can’t be collected 24 hours per day. There are also many places where the sun is blocked for days due to the changes in the seasons.

We can’t predict how much wind will be produced or how much power can be taken from the water. It will vary significantly but there is no reason why we can’t rely upon these renewable energy sources as the primary providers. We can then depend on fossil fuels as back up so we never have to go without the energy we want to use.
